Team Tarifa summer camp

“My daughter experienced a substancial personal growth from the entire experience. Thank you for operating a wonderful program.”

Lenguaventura Summer Camp is only possible with the support of a wonderful group of people who share the same enthusiasm, which we are proud to call our team. At Lenguaventura, we are lucky to have great professionals who share our philosophy.

Our staff are always on hand to support our teenage campers and fix things if they go wrong to ensure the students always feel protected and properly looked after.

Founder & Camp Director

She was born in Switzerland. Irene remembers when she was a child, the photos of the sea in the window of a travel agency really grabbed her attention. In the end she found in Tarifa what she had been dreaming of, the wide horizon with views to the African continent. Tarifa then was just a fishing village and little by little windsurfing and later kitesurfing became popular. To earn her living, she opened a Spanish language school for international students something new in Tarifa which did not exist yet. In 2003, her dream project, Lenguaventura summer camp was born and she started to dedicate 100 % of her time to this project.

Co-ordinator counsellor

Adrián was born in Madrid and is ‘a Scot’ by adoption, having been living in Edinburgh for several years. He has a degree in journalism and works as a Spanish teacher. He has extensive experience working with children and young people in all kinds of entertainment and leisure activities. Each summer, Adrián swaps Scotland for the Andalusian sun, and has worked at Lenguaventura for many years – a role he considers more a passion, than a job. Besides enjoying the camp, he loves languages, travelling and photography. Adrian is in charge of coordinating the team of counsellors and the activity program.

Marketing & Communication

Araceli embodies Lenguaventura’s values and philosophy very closely, as she experiences camp life from inside. Having worked for over 10 years in the education sector, Araceli brings experience and creativity to the Lenguaventura project. With her best smile and a lot of patience, Araceli is always happy to help any camper or staff member during the summer camp season. She is always there where help or support is needed. She loves learning new languages, traveling to other countries and meeting new people, so Lenguaventura is her perfect summer destination.

English teacher

Sammi spent several years teaching English as a foreign language to both adults and children and Sammi loves to help dedicated students achieve their goals when it comes to their academic qualifications. She also loves bringing fun and a more creative learning style to those that just want to practice, improve and have fun with the language whilst learning. Sammi studied both fine art, art history and humanities in London and brings this into her classes, where appropriate, so that her students can expand their vocabulary in ways that their more academic studies may not have covered. Aside from teaching English, Sammi has a passion for the arts, snowboarding and enjoys being a student at the local circus school.

Spanish teacher

She has worked with our Founder, Irene since she was in charge of her Spanish language school in Tarifa. Horten had just finished her studies having completed her degree in Spanish philology. Irene saw her potential immediately and she was right. It began eight years of wonderful collaboration. Then it was time for Horten to discover the world. She went to Australia, studied tourism and English and stayed there a few years. Her next destination was Oxford where she worked as a teacher. Finally she decided to come home to Andalusia. When they happened to meet again, Irene offered Horten to teach Spanish at the summer camp and she has been back with the team each summer for the past couple of years.

Kiteschool director

After a successful career as a chef around the world, Franky, born in Italy, decided to change careers and follow his passion of being more in touch with nature, to transmit positive emotions and knowledge for kitesurfing. He is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Italian and is an old face at the camp. For over ten years Franky has been in charge of organising and coordinating the team of experienced instructors at Lenguaventura summer camp. Always a big motivator and a friendly presence around the beach, Franky wants everyone to make the most of Tarifa.

Responsible wingsurfing courses

In 1996, Daniele came from Italy, his home country, to Tarifa, following his passion for windsurfing. In 2000, he discovered kitesurfing and in 2002 he opened his first kitesurfing school. Irene and Daniele have been working together for years, first for adults, offering Spanish & kitesurfing packages. Later when the Lenguaventura community grew and more kitesurf schools were needed, Irene’s first choice was to ask Daniele and his team to collaborate with Lenguaventura. Three years ago Daniele started to offer a new type of water sport – Wingsurfing – an amazing experience for sport enthusiasts. For 2022, Lenguaventura will offer courses for wingsurfing/wingfoilsurfing in collaboration with Daniele.

Windsurfschool director

Christine’s first contact with Tarifa was by accident. In 1994, she was on her way from Austria to Portugal and made a stopover in Tarifa, where she saw the windsurfers on the water. She knew in this moment that she wanted to learn windsurf. In the spring of 1995 she came back to Tarifa, with no knowledge of the Spanish language. Whilst studying at Irene’s Spanish school, Christine and Irene met for the first time. Christine was very excited to learn Spanish and windsurfing and decided to stay in Tarifa and find work. After a few summers working in different shops, she landed her dream role as a windsurf instructor at a specialised windsurfing school, Spin Out, which she took over in 2013. Christine now owns her own windsurf school – proof that dreams do come true!

Our camp counsellors are people who are always optimistic with a 24/7 positive energy! But they are much more than that… their curiosity, kindness, stamina and last but not least a willingness to have fun and be silly is what makes Lenguaventura summer camps so special.

At summer camp, kids can think outside the box and be opened up to a world of new experiences. Our team will always offer 100% support to our campers and with a clear objective to make all our participants feel Lenguaventura is their home away from home – but above all a safe place to learn and grow.

Some of our camp counsellors have worked with us for years, we’re one big family.
