Learning a Language by Using It at a Teen Summer Camp

Language Is Meant to Be Used

At our international teen summer camp in Tarifa, language learning is part of everyday life rather than an isolated classroom activity.

Morning classes in Spanish or English focus on communication. Teenagers discuss ideas, work on projects, solve small tasks together and learn to express themselves in situations that feel natural and meaningful.

The objective is not to memorise as many grammar rules as possible, but to become more confident using the language.

Beyond Grammar

We believe that language learning should encourage teenagers to express themselves rather than simply reproduce what they have memorised. Our goal is to help them become active users of the language rather than passive learners of grammar.

The classroom is therefore only the starting point. It gives teenagers the confidence to try, make mistakes and keep communicating, because the goal is not perfection but real interaction.

Communication Before Perfection

Many teenagers hesitate to speak because they are afraid of making mistakes. Our approach is different. We encourage them to participate, ask questions and express their opinions, even if their language skills are not perfect.

The classroom provides the vocabulary, structure and confidence, while mistakes become part of the learning process rather than something to avoid.

A Naturally Bilingual Environment

One of the advantages of an international camp is that languages have a real purpose. Spanish and English are not only subjects taught in the morning but practical tools for everyday communication. Using a language because it is useful often feels very different from using it only to complete an exercise. Communication is no longer an isolated classroom exercise but simply becomes part of daily interaction.
