Who Are the Group Leaders at Our Teen Camp in Tarifa?
When families discover our Teen camp in Tarifa for the first time, one question usually comes up straight away: who will be living with our teenagers during the summer?
Who are the Teen Camp group leaders?
Group leaders come from backgrounds such as education, psychology, sports, and youth work. They are used to working with teenagers and understand how group dynamics evolve over days and weeks, which helps them know when to step in, when to listen, and when to give space.
Their role is not simply to run activities. They are here to live responsibly with a group of young people and guide the daily life of the Camp.
Are they with the teens all the time?
Yes. Group leaders live on site for the entire camp session. They share the daily rhythm: breakfast conversations, activity blocks, beach afternoons, evening games.
There is no “end of shift.” They are present throughout the day and available at night if needed.
What is their role, beyond supervision?
Supervision is only one part of it. A group leader helps teenagers organize themselves, navigate friendships, manage frustrations, and take responsibility within the group.
Living together always brings small tensions. These are addressed early and calmly. Leadership here is not about authority for its own sake. It is about staying close enough to support, so teenagers can feel at home while learning to stand on their own.
How do you select group leaders?
Experience matters, but we look beyond titles. Our group leaders are usually 24 years or older, and most already work with teenagers during the school year. They know what guiding young people really involves. You can read more about supervision and daily responsibilities on our Information for parents page.
Character is just as important as qualifications. Working in a teen camp is demanding. The days are long and the responsibility is real. It suits people who are committed to working with young people and understand the responsibility involved.
Finally, Spanish law requieres an official criminal record certificate for anyone working with minors. This is compulsory and part of our standar procedure.
